In 1989 my father emigrated to the US, met my mother, and together they raised my siblings and me in central Sioux Falls, where I ultimately graduated from Lincoln High School. Following my secondary education at Creighton University, my wife Carrie — a Gregory native and Augie graduate — and I returned to South Dakota to raise our family. We placed roots in Sioux Falls and have lived in District 15 for the past 8 years. It is here that we have chosen to teach our boys the values of responsibility, hard work, service, and love of neighbor.

Thickly-knit and richly textured communities are critical for future generations preparing to impact the world through their work, relationships, and affections. To support this future we will need strong classrooms with well-equipped educators and support staff, workforce opportunities that will provide for today, local economic development that will carry these jobs into the future, and an unwavering encouragement of entrepreneurial innovation.

Our representatives in Pierre must reflect faith in the promise of our state and its people. Irresponsible rhetoric and unproductive grandstanding have no place in a government that ought to approach representative leadership with humility, steadfastness, and grace.

I believe wholeheartedly in the resilience and virtue of hardworking South Dakotans to meet the challenges of the future head on, carrying the torch for our children and our children’s children.
